Star College Scheme

The Department of Chemistry is covered under the ‘Star College Scheme’ of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Star College Scheme has been initiated by DBT to support institutions offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching. The scheme is aimed at creating interest of students in science and promote excellence in science teaching at the undergraduate level.

The department along with seven other science departments of the college got selected under DBT Star College Scheme in 2019 and a total grant of 1.42 Crore was sanctioned for the period 2019-2022. Under the scheme, the department has carried out curriculum enrichment, strengthening of lab infrastructure and carried out several activities including workshops, training programmes, student projects, academic and industrial visits, and expert lectures.

Bsc (Hons) Chemistry Admissions 2024-25

Value added Course on Analytical Instrumentation

The Department of Chemistry aims to enhance practical experience of students along with theoretical knowledge by offering various skill enhancement courses and conduct training programmes which meet the industry demands and bring value addition to the candidate’s potential. The hands-on training programme in Analytical Instrumentation has been designed with the aim to provide hands on training to students and enable them to operate and use these instruments on their own. The course shall enable the students gain skill in handling of scientific instruments and enhance their career prospects in industry.

Lab Infrastructure

Laboratory work is an essential component of Chemistry courses. The department has four specialised laboratories viz., Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Instrumentation Lab to facilitate the students and researchers. Experienced and qualified faculty and support staff ensure an enriching experience to the learners. The college also has a well-equipped Central Instrumentation Laboratory with sophisticated instruments for research purposes. The laboratories are well equipped with scientific instruments including

Students Projects

Project work is an important part of Chemistry courses. The undergraduate students are offered project work and hands on training as Skill Enhancement Course (SEC). Also, they are offered Research project as Discipline Specific Elective in final year of their course. The postgraduate students are required to undergo industrial training after completion of their first year which gives students an essential exposure of the industry environment and help them to develop their skills.

Chemical Association

The department has ‘Chemical Association’ with the representation of students at its various positions. All the students of the department are the members of this association. Many activities are conducted by this association which provides a platform to the students to gain leadership qualities and managing events and making decisions beyond the academic learning.

E-Content

The faculty of the department has developed practical based video demonstrations particularly for senior secondary school students which are available on the college website as a free learning resource.
