Chemistry is a fundamental science and has contributed immensely to the life of human beings by providing many of the human requirements and essentialities. New branches of chemistry are emerging and gaining importance, such as bioorganic chemistry, materials chemistry computational chemistry etc. The emerging Chemical Technologies are highly science based .The aid of computers has not only accelerated growth in the practice of Chemistry but revolutionized the entire field.
M.Sc. Chemistry is a two year post graduate programme designed to provide Knowledge and skills to the students and train the students for future career in Chemistry. This course opens the doors to a large number of career options such as career in pharmaceutical industry, textile industry, environment conservation, perfume industry, forensic science, metallurgy etc. and also career in teaching and research.
The department has smart classrooms and well equipped labs with advanced instruments such as UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Spectro fluorophotometer, FT-IR , rotary vacuum evaporator, high precision balances and many more.
Eligibility Criteria :
The candidates should have passed B.Sc/B.Sc.(Hons.)with Chemistry as an elective subject with minimum 50% marks

Eligibility Criteria:
The Candidate must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent examination with Science group (Medical) from Punjab School Education Board or a Board equivalent thereto. The candidates who are awarded grades shall be required to produce conversion formula for converting the scored grade into percent marks. The admission will be made purely on merit basis.

Star College Scheme
The Department of Chemistry is covered under the âStar College Schemeâ of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Star College Scheme has been initiated by DBT to support institutions offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching. The scheme is aimed at creating interest of students in science and promote excellence in science teaching at the undergraduate level.
The department along with seven other science departments of the college got selected under DBT Star College Scheme in 2019 and a total grant of 1.42 Crore was sanctioned for the period 2019-2022. Under the scheme, the department has carried out curriculum enrichment, strengthening of lab infrastructure and carried out several activities including workshops, training programmes, student projects, academic and industrial visits, and expert lectures.

Value added Course on Analytical Instrumentation
The Department of Chemistry aims to enhance practical experience of students along with theoretical knowledge by offering various skill enhancement courses and conduct training programmes which meet the industry demands and bring value addition to the candidateâs potential. The hands-on training programme in Analytical Instrumentation has been designed with the aim to provide hands on training to students and enable them to operate and use these instruments on their own. The course shall enable the students gain skill in handling of scientific instruments and enhance their career prospects in industry.
Laboratory work is an essential component of Chemistry courses. The department has four specialised laboratories viz., Inorganic, Organic, Physical and Instrumentation Lab to facilitate the students and researchers. Experienced and qualified faculty and support staff ensure an enriching experience to the learners. The college also has a well-equipped Central Instrumentation Laboratory with sophisticated instruments for research purposes. The laboratories are well equipped with scientific instruments including

Project work is an important part of Chemistry courses. The undergraduate students are offered project work and hands on training as Skill Enhancement Course (SEC). Also, they are offered Research project as Discipline Specific Elective in final year of their course. The postgraduate students are required to undergo industrial training after completion of their first year which gives students an essential exposure of the industry environment and help them to develop their skills.
Chemical Association
The department has âChemical Associationâ with the representation of students at its various positions. All the students of the department are the members of this association. Many activities are conducted by this association which provides a platform to the students to gain leadership qualities and managing events and making decisions beyond the academic learning.
