Master of Computer Applications (MCA) course is structured to meet the requirements of the future technocrats who would need to upgrade their understanding of IT concepts and tools which are relevant to decision making. Knowledge of IT and its effective deployment in functional areas is especially designed to help them outperform in their areas of specialisation and advance their professional growth. It will equip them with the requisite skills to tap the right IT solutions for any organization. It is a three year full time post graduate program, consisting of six semesters, as per the syllabus and schedule of Punjabi University, Patiala. The programs have been carefully planned to meet the needs of students, employers and the society at large in the emerging global business environment. The MCA programme is approved by AICTE and Ministry of HRD India.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Admission to the MCA Course will be as per the rules of Punjabi University/Punjab Government/College.
- Candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) in any discipline /BCA of a recognised university with 50% marks in aggregate. In case of Scheduled Caste/Tribes/Physically Handicapped candidates (at least 40% disability), the percentage shall be 45%. The Candidate must have passed senior secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination or higher degree examination with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Business Statistics/Business Mathematics/ Quantitative Techniques/or equivalent as compulsory/ optional/ additional subject.

M.Sc.-IT course has been designed to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the field of Information Technology. This course is inclined more toward Application Development and thus has more emphasis on latest programming language and tools. This course places the special emphasis on how to work with different computer applications. The course also fulfils the requirement of various State and Central Government jobs in terms of number of computer learning/training hours. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been implemented in MSC-IT from academic session 2016-17 as per guidelines of U G.C.

Duration: 2 Year
The Course for degree of M.Sc. IT (LE) will be one year (2 Semesters) duration. The students will be directly admited to M.Sc. IT Part II. Important Note : The course content of M.Sc. IT (LE) will be same as M.Sc. IT -II, but the students will have to pass deficient papers of M.Sc.-IT first year.

BCA Course is an undergraduate program approved by AICTE ,where students are exposed to various areas of computer applications including the latest developments in the industry. BCA graduates can start up their career in either Government sector or private sector since there are a lot of employment opportunities in both these sectors. This course develops you to pursue your career as Computer Programmer, System Analyst. Testing Engineer, Technical Writer, System Administrator, Database Administrator, Website Developer, Mobile Application Developer etc.

It has been a long felt necessity to align higher education with the emerging need of the economy and incorporate the requirements of various industries. The University Grant Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme of skills development based on higher education leading to Bachelor Of Vocation (B.Voc.) Degree with multiple exits such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc. to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate Employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge. The graduates could expect to work as software programmers, application programmers, software analysts, software developers and software testers in Multinational companies and Indian companies. The graduates could also seek employment as IT specialists with mobile network providers, networking companies, Internet service providers and data base management companies. The syllabus of B.Voc is based on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

Computer Science
PG Department of Computer Science was established in 1991 when computer education was confined only to the upper strata of the Society. The motive behind establishing the department was to bring technical education at the college level within the reach of the common man and to cater to the needs of the rural students. The department had a modest beginning in terms of today’s aspirations.
The Department is successfully running MCA, M.Sc.(IT), M.Sc.(IT)-LE, PGDCA, BCA, B.Voc.(SD) and B.Sc.(H)-AI&DS courses. The department aims at ingraining the spirit of ingenuity, innovativeness and technical competence in the students through rigorous competition and regular guidance. The department also caters to the need of users in the region and organizes training programmes in teaching and research.
The Department is well equipped with high end computers, latest software & State-of-Art IT infrastructure. The Department houses nine well equipped air conditioned labs including latest iMac lab. The students are provided free internet facility through 155 mbps 1:1 ILL through Optical Fibre Cable. The coverage of Wi-Fi is not restricted to class rooms but it extends to every nook and corner of the campus including Library, Auditorium, Cafeteria, Lawns, Boys hostels, Girls hostels and Sports grounds.
The Department is graced with well qualified 14 regular faculty members including 5 Associate Professors. The Department aims to bring researchers, scholars and students on a common platform and provide a forum for the dissemination of new ideas in the field of Computer Science. The Department organizes various workshops/Guest Lectures to promote scientific and educational activities towards the advancement of theory and practice of Computer Science.
We also provide a wealth of opportunities for extra-curricular pursuits. Students carve out a niche for themselves and at the same time enjoy exploring uncharted domains. Extra-Curricular activities help students to develop themselves in the desired field and improve organizational, presentation, leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
