Department of English endeavours to open up panorama of creative imagination by providing and opportunity to the inquisitive minds to delve into the rich and vast mine of English Literature. It exposes the students to varied cultures, people, their traditions and customs. Apart from helping the students to attain Languages skills and literary genius, the course also attempts to teach them the philosophy of life. The course motivates them to read effectively, reflect deeply and to express themselves creatively Our academic programme focuses on the professional needs, be it teaching or jobs in the corporate world. It aims to enhance their personality their command over the language and enables them to face the worldly challenges.

At least 50% marks at under-graduate level.

Literature expresses the values and aspirations, the certainties and uncertainties of the societies in which it was created. To study English Honours, is to take up these questions in a rigorous and systematic way, relating them to a literary culture of exceptional richness and diversity, extending over a thousand years and more. The course will give the students a deeper understanding of the workings of literary texts and their place in societies past and present. During the course, students will study English, Irish, African, Canadian, Australian and American literature, as well as modules in prose, verse, drama and even film. The three year Honours undergraduate degree will allow students to read and reflect on a wide variety of literary works, selected from genres, historical eras and other ranges. Honours students may make an informed choice of modules from a wide menu.

For admission in English Honours the candidate must have passed the Higher School Certificate (10+2) examination from a recognized board.

ਬੀ.ਏ.ਸਮੈਸਟਰ-ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਫਾਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਜੁੱਟ, ਦਾਖ਼ਲੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਕਾਊਂਸਲਿੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਭਰਨਗੇ । ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਅੰਗਰੇਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੇ ਗਰੁੱਪਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਚੁਣਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੋਈ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਚੁਣੇਗਾ :-

ਬੀ.ਏ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ –ਪਹਿਲਾ (ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਸਿਸਟਮ): ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਕੂਲ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਬੋਰਡ ਤੋਂ +2 ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਮਾਨਤਾ –ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਪ੍ਰੀਖਿਆ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਵੇ , ਬੀ.ਏ. ਸਮੈਸਟਰ –ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦਾਖ਼ਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ।
ਬੀ.ਏ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ –ਦੂਜਾ (ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਸਿਸਟਮ): ਜਿਸ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਨੇ ਬੀ.ਏ. ਭਾਗ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਲੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੁੱਲ ਪੇਪਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਘੱਟੋ ਘੱਟ 50% ਪੇਪਰ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਣ ।
ਬੀ.ਏ.ਭਾਗ –ਤੀਜਾ(ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਸਿਸਟਮ): ਜਿਸ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਨੇ ਬੀ.ਏ. ਭਾਗ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੀ ਸਮੈਸਟਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਲੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੁੱਲ ਪੇਪਰਾਂ (4 ਸਮੈਸਟਰਾਂ ) ਦੇ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 50%ਪੇਪਰ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਣ ।
ਨੋਟ :ਮੈਥੇਮੈਟਿਕਸ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਦਾ +2 ਵਿੱਚ ਗਣਿਤ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਪਾਸ ਹੋਣਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਹੈ ।

The Post Graduate Department of English was established in the year 1957 and has been providing quality education in the field of English language and Literature ever-since. Department of English endeavours to open up panorama of creative imagination by providing an opportunity to the inquisitive minds to delve into the rich and vast mine of English literature. The department aims to train the students in subjects of English literature and polish up their communicative abilities so that they can excel in all fields after passing out from the college. The department offers courses in B.A Honours (English), and Master of Arts in English. We also offer subject choices like English Literature, Functional English to students pursuing B.A.
The department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. Owing to the value-based and excellent service provided by the faculty to its students, numerous students have qualified their UGC-NET English exam over the years. Apart from providing outstanding academic training, department also runs ‘English Literary Society’, which provides a unique platform to students to showcase their hidden talent by organising various extra-curricular activities and competitions from time to time. Some of the events organized by English Literary Society include Poetry Recitation competition, poster making competition, debates/ declamation, quiz contests etc. Such initiatives lead to the all-round development of the students. The department also runs various short-term courses such as Spoken English and Diploma in French which are open to students of all streams.The department also organizes various workshops, seminars, guest lectures to facilitate the learning process. In order to keep pace with innovative teaching and training methods, we also have a well-organized Multi Media English Language Lab which has 20 computers and a projector.
