Food technology involves all the aspects of food science I.e. Production, processing to wholesome and safe distribution of healthy food viz. Farm to fork. Now days food industry is flourishing with fact pace to serve the basic human requirements thus career in the same discipline ensures better future opportunities concerning food academics, food researches and food industry professionals too. Prevalence of binge eating habits, to minimize post harvest loses, improving quality, safely and wholesomeness of food encourages researchers to formulate new products as per the convenience and demand . This course emphasize on learning scientific concepts with application of technology. It provides the opportunity to expand beyond the background provided by the food science. The college is successfully running a post graduate course, M.Sc.(Hons.) Food Technology. Department is well equipped with research work culture and sophisticated instruments viz. HPLC, GC, Bakery Oven, Dough mixing device, Pelican Fat & Fiber estimation unit, Cooling liquid dispenser, Cabinet milling machine, muffle furnace, spectrophotometer, Refrigerated centrifuge, Autoclave, BSC, Shakers, Incubator and shaking incubators etc. Letâs come and try to achieve, Hippocratesâs quote âLet Food Be Your Medicine, Not Medicine Be Your Foodâ.
Eligibility Criteria :
Candidate who have passed the Bachelor`s degree in sciences in the faculty of life sciences/Food Sciences/Agriculture/Home Science/Medical/Non Medical Stream with at least 50% marks in above disciplines.

About the Department:
Credit to write this success story has never been possible without the efforts of visionary directions and timely assistance of institutionâs head, which helped in time to get funds, infrastructure, equipments, permissions for various co-curricular activities. Faculty has also works appreciably to get it highlighted in the region as best one. Memorendum of Understanding (Chanakya Dairy Pvt Ltd, Bajwa Vegicraft and Pagro food Pvt Ltd), Cultural visit / Educational excursion, Guest lectures, Webinars and Demonstration workshop give the students to expand their wings beyond just the bookish knowledge. It is also advantageous, as a result of which faculty and students collaboratively come to the findings of the level of publications with referred journals and books of well repute publication house (Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis and Elsevier). As per the recently achieved successes; contributions in around 12 book chapters in all during the session 2020-21, book proposal and Indo-Uzbekistan joint project proposal is also under consideration by publishers of an international repute and DST, GOI N. Delhi respectively.
Well equipped laboratory encouraging the students to learn deep into the subject practically. Departmental initiatives to enhance learning capability in students by means of some demonstration workshops and seminars organized in department are really appreciable. There is plethora of opportunities for students who wish to pursue a course in food sciences as technologists, scientists, academicians and researchers.

Well Equipped Labs:
Department is running with well infrastructure set up of various instruments/equipments of analytical grade (Chromatographic, Electrophoretic, Centrifugation, Spectrophotometric, Shakers, Incubators, Freezers, Extractors, Mixers / Blenders and Dispensers). Production and formulation machineries (Bakery and Confectionary), and even pilot plants (Ice-cream plant of GOMA make) to install incubation centre for technicality imparted rural youth of nearby regions. Various kit (Megazyme, Koma biotech) based knowledge is also involved in teaching/learning cum research practices to have sound technical expertise development among the learners.
Departmental Library:
Department having all the collections of latest books, manuals, magazines and journals to cater the needs of faculty and students in their teaching, learning and researches.
Alumni Association:
All the alumni students of the department are listed recorded and assigned on to a common pool with the help of google form.
Club/Society:
Life Science Society is there to carry out various departmental academic and co-curricular activities. It is somehow students participative, students managed and students organized platform that even help the needy students.
Healthy participation in various co-curricular activities highlighted in terms of Zonal youth festival prizes (Gidha prize-2nd, 2018), Zonal youth festival prizes (Gidha-1st prize 2019), Inter zonal youth festival participation among various categories. Additionally, students participated, presented and won many of distinction in various conferences of national and international repute.
Department of Food Technology has done tremendous work during these Covid-19 pandemic lockdown hours. An initiative of active participation of departmental faculty members in association with ongoing and alumni students to write some review and research articles is really appreciable. As a result, department earned one more opportunity of publication with an international journal (Elsevier; Impact factor 5.1). Remaining research and review compilation are in progress of publication (Springer) while some are in consideration under revision category (Wiley).
Besides these journal publications; students and faculty members also contributed around 12 book chapters in all during the session 2020-21 for publishing houses of national and international repute (CRC Press; Taylor & Francis, Springer, Elsevier and New India Publishing Agency). A book proposal and Indo-Uzbekistan joint project proposal is also under consideration by publishers of an international repute and DST, GOI N. Delhi respectively.
Departmental initiatives to enhance learning capability in students by means of some demonstration workshop and seminars organized in department are really appreciable. As a result of which students itself planned a recently headed webinar entitled âPatent; Rights and Opportunitiesâ in collaboration with Indian Patent Office, N. Delhi.
