B.Sc. Non-Medical
B.Sc. Non-Medical is a three-year degree programme spread over six semesters. The program introduces the students to the basics of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Computer Science and takes them to the advanced postulates of the subjects. Knowledge of these basic subjects is essential for thorough understanding of the fundamental laws of nature. The program is one of the oldest programs offered in the college and makes students ready for a wide variety of jobs.

Eligibility Criteria:
The Candidate must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent examination with Science group (Non-Medical) from Punjab School Education Board or a Board equivalent thereto. The candidates who are awarded grades shall be required to produce conversion formula for converting the scored grade into percent marks. The admission will be made purely on merit basis.

About the Department- History of the Department
Department of Physics was established in the year 1959 with the efforts of eminent educationist and founder Principal of the college, Dr. Niranjan Singh, first head of the department was Mr. Kuria Kose, a dedicated teacher from South India. At present, the department offers Undergraduate and Post graduate Programmes. Currently, M.Sc. Physics, B.Sc. Hons. Physics, B.Sc. Non-Medical are being offered by the department. The department is covered under “Star College Scheme” by DBT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. The department has five Regular faculty members.

Facilities
The department has two State-of-Arts laboratories including Nuclear Physics laboratory, dark room and a store. Laboratories are fully equipped with the latest apparatus like the Advanced Scintillation Counter with MCA Card, GM Counter, ESR Resonance and Ultrasonic interferometer etc. which are essential for the students of B.Sc. and M.Sc. for better understandings of theoretical concepts. The demonstration-type of experimental set-up like nano-technology and CDS (Constant Deviation spectrometer) are also available in our labs. The departmental library has sufficient number of text as well as reference books for ready reference. Magazines on are also available in the library to enhance the knowledge of students and teachers. Our alumni have taken up different professions and are placed in various reputed universities, IITs and NITs.Number of students have cleared different competitive examinations (NET, SSB, BARC etc.). The Faculty is adept in the usage of Information and Communication Technology. Classrooms and laboratories are fully equipped with projectors and boards. The department has audio-visual aids like interactive board and LCD projector in the class rooms to enhance the knowledge of students in a proper manner. Skill enhancement courses along with theoretical information of the subject have been introduced.
Activities of the Department
Other than teaching, various other duties are assigned to the teachers, such as design of courses, one -to- one teaching (projects/dissertation), service on curriculum committees, mentorship of students, participation in faculty development courses etc. Department hosts various national and regional activities like workshops, guest lectures, essay writing, poster making competitions, declamation, quiz, trips and excursions etc.
Research and Publications
The area of expertise of the faculty members are Atomic Physics, Materials Science, Radiation Physics, theoretical Nuclear Physics, Nanotechnology and Condensed Matter Physics. The faculty has a good number of SCI publications in reputed international journals with an average h-index of 6.
