The core goal of psychology is to actualize the potential and optimize the functioning of an individual. Being a scientific discipline, it employs scientific procedure to penetrate deep into human behaviour. The ever growing field of psychology incorporates a plethora of sub-fields such as clinical psychology. Organizational Behaviour, Media Psychology, Child Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Research Methodology, Personality Psychology, Social Psychology etc. The psychology department is well equipped with latest tools to aid the study. The scope of psychology is ever widening as mental health issues are on the peak. The psychology post-graduate has ample opportunities-Child Psychologist, Play Therapist, Counsellor, Child protection Officer, Police Psychologist, Forensic psychologist, HR Consultants, Marriage and Family Therapist, Research Assistant etc.
Eligibility Criteria :
The candidate should be graduate in any discipline with 50% marks. Admission will be purely on merit basis.

Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling is a one year programme. The specific purpose of this Post Graduate Diploma is to meet the growing demand for counsellors in schools, rehabilitation centres, clinics/hospitals, special education centres, centres for people with challenges, geriatric centres, remedial study centres, vocational/Career guidance programmes, welfare organizations, nursing profession, hotels/hospitality industry (tourism & travel), adoption agencies, remand homes, marriage/family help centres, helpline services – Suicide Prevention/child helpline, etc., centres for widows/abused women/divorcees, HIV/AIDS patients counselling centres, NGOs/International agencies, support groups for alcoholics/drugs and other substance users, jails/correction centres, tribal welfare organizations, community-based mental health programmes, police training centres, ethnic and human relations programmes, and legislative/environmental agencies.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Psychology was established in 2011 to contribute significantly to the science and practice of psychology. The Department was set up to develop an awareness of the importance of studying human behaviour and the societal relevance of psychology. Psychology department ventures to prepare students for professions in ever growing and dynamic field of Psychology. At present, the department is offering M.A., P.G. Diploma in Counselling Psychology and Psychology as an elective subject in BA.
Catering to present needs, our curriculum emphasises on theoretical as well as applied aspects of the subject and it is designed to provide knowledge of various branches such as Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Child Development, Industrial Psychology and personality assessment to the students. Great attention is paid on fostering skills and attitudes in students in order to help them become competent psychologists and better human beings. An open-minded atmosphere of debate and discussion is provided to nurture the growing minds so that they can acknowledge varied perspectives that shape human nature.
Department of Psychology endeavors to help students to choose the right career. Our professional and academic training enables students to work in a broad range of settings. Our students successfully pursue various kinds of careers in schools, clinics, government and non-government organizations. Our alumni enjoy gratifying careers in clinical practice while others have moved into the realm of teaching and research.

- As mental health of students is of paramount importance, hence a counselling cell is run by the psychology department which provides the psychological services and personal counseling to the students of the college. Studentโs mental health is assessed using variety of psychological tests and necessary treatment and therapies are provided by our trained counselor.
SOCITIES-
The Department has collaborated with Psychowaves advance psychological services, Mind Care Hospital, Sirhind and other organizations for providing internship and practical exposure to the students.
ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT-
Every year the department organizes various activities like Psycho-fest, mental health workshops, guest lectures and official talks from experts to enhance and update the knowledge of students as well as faculty. These student engagement activities foster self โesteem, positive attitude and cognitive skills in the students.
To flourish the professional training of the students, the Department of Psychology also organizes field visit to psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centres and Drug de-addiction centres which stimulates the understanding of application of theoretical perspective into real-world simulations.
RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS-
A lot of emphasis is placed on experimentation and research so that students can learn practically and apply the theoretical knowledge in their life. Keeping in view the importance of research, faculty members are engaged in conducting research and getting it published in national and international journals.
