Red Cross Unit
Youth Red Cross Unit is a voluntary humanitarian organization that creates awareness amongst students and inculcates in them a sense of responsibility towards Social Service, Health Care, Blood donation, rendering relief in times of disasters/emergencies. The mission of Youth Red Cross Unit is to inspire, encourage and initiate all forms of humanitarian activities to minimize human suffering and contribute to peace. Youth Red Cross Unit has been established by Punjab Red Cross Unit, Chandigarh. Volunteers of the College participate in Red Cross Training Camps, activities and various competitions. The college unit imparts human values to our students through the activities organised through out the acedemic year.
Red Cross Unit Activities 2017-18
- The Red Cross Unit organised a blood donation camp on March 18, 2018 (World Environment Day) to pay tribute to the Seventh Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Har Rai Ji. Students and staff participated in the camp with great enthusiasm and zeal donating 150 units of blood. The objective of this commemoration is to develop humanitarian values among students by taking inspiration from the life of Sri Guru Har Rai. Donors were presented a sapling to encourage them to preserve and care for the environment.
- The contribution of the Red Cross Unit was recognised by the Indian Red Cross Society on June 7, 2018. The Director- Principal, Dr. Kashmir Singh, was honoured by the Governor of Punjab and Chairman, Punjab Red Cross Society, His Excellency V.P. Singh Badnour for the remarkable contribution of Red Cross Unit of Mata Gujri College to the society.
Red Cross Unit Activities 2018-19
- Two day First Aid Training Camp (30-31 August 2018) was attended by two Faculty members and Red Cross Volunteers of the College. Dr. Satnam Singh, Assistant Professor, Political Science and Prof. Harbhinder Singh. Assistant Professor, History and three Red Cross Volunteers attended the camp at Shri Guru Teg Bhadur Khalsa College, Sri Anandpur Sahib organised by Bhai Ghanaiya ji Care, Service & Welfare Society (Regd.) Punjab.
- The Youth Red Cross Unit in collaboration with NSS unit of the College organised a Blood Donation Camp on 17 September 2018 to commemorate the 300th death anniversary of Bhai Ghanaiya Ji.
- The Youth Red Cross Unit organised One day First Aid Traning camp on 26th October 2018 in collaboration with NDRF. Approximately 100 students attended this traning camp.
- The Youth Red Cross Unit organised a three day First Aid camp (26-28 December 2018) during Shaheedi Sabha in the memory of Martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas of Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh, Baba Zoravar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. During this camp, a team of Doctors from Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Sri Amritsar (Punjab) and Red Cross Volunteers of MGC jointly provided first Aid to approximately 5500 devotees. This practice is a regular feature of Red Cross unit for many years.
- The Red Cross unit observed 1st February, 2019 as the Mobile Fasting Day. Volunteers pledged to celebrate every first day of the month as mobile fasting day. The objective of this activity was to create awareness in the students towards the harmful effects of excessive use of Mobile Phones.
Red Cross Unit Activities 2019-20
- As per the direction of the Civil Surgeon Office, Fatehgarh Sahib, the Youth Red Cross Unit organised a One day Foot Soldier Health Volunteers Camp for traning of Boys and Girls below 30 years on 31-10-19. During this event, 30 Red Cross voluntrees were made Foot Soldier Health voluntrees.
- The Youth Red Cross Unit organised a three day First Aid camp (26-28 December 2019) during Sheedi Sabha in the memory of Martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas of Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Gugu Gobind Singh, Baba Zoravar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.
